But one recipe that has bypassed me so far has been the great chocolate-less brownie - the blondie. Now I thought blondies were just white chocolate versions of brownies but it seems the addition of brown sugar gives them a caramelly taste that makes them quite distinct. They appear to be a cross between a brownie in texture and a cookie in flavour and they couldn't be simpler to make.
I had some white chocolate that was burning a hole in my pantry and some dark brown sugar that was leftover from cookie baking last week so I found this recipe from one of my favourite blogs Smitten Kitchen and decided to give them a go. I managed to take some pictures along the way to share with you how simple they really are:
The batter coming together nicely - one of the few recipes I can make with just a bowl and spatula! |
Gotta add some more chocolate chips... |
Crumbly, chewy and caramel flavoured. Yummy! |
As always, leave them to go cold before cutting and you'll get a nice clean slice. Unless like me you can't resist the temptation to try one and are ashamed when you find your 7yr old has rumbled you by noticing the missing square in the tray...
They look delicious, I love blondies!
ReplyDeleteYES. The Smitten Kitchen blondie is my go-to recipe whenever I need a baked good in a hurry (ie, frequently)! I can taste the caramely-ness of that last photo, and it is good.
ReplyDeleteThey are so unbelievably yummy! I can't believe I've waited this long to make them?!
DeleteThanks Nicola! They are scrummy, I'm already planning my next batch :)
