Cake stall at school fair

Whew! What a busy few weeks it's been - I honestly curse our 24 hour day sometimes, why can't you be more flexible father time??

So what's been keeping me busy? Well firstly, an influx of unexpected cake orders. I try really hard to accommodate all order requests, but my free time has paid the price. Some of you will know I also have a full time job I work alongside Star Bakery so my only 'baking time' is evenings and weekends. I'm not complaining though, all of my customers are fab and continue to challenge my creative skills daily.

I also had a stall at a local infant school in Beeston, Nottingham. It was at a Ladies Pamper Evening and I had a great time! We sold out of cupcakes and brownies and I must have given away over 100+ business cards so it was a marketing opportunity as well as a way to get my cakes out there. The tables were teeny tiny school tables so I felt like a cake giant!!

Finally, I have been trying to prepare for Christmas orders. My week between Christmas and New Year's is nearly booked with orders but I am having a market stall at Rufford in December and trying to design what lovely things to bring for people to buy. Gingerbread, cinnamon and fruit also feature heavily in my ideas but is there anything else you'd like to see on my stall? What item would you just HAVE to have?

I leave you this evening with a picture of some recent gorgeous little cupcakes I made for an order this weekend. The idea is taken from the Planet Cake book (AMAZING!!) and it's my new favourite cupcake...

  1. I know how you feel - I am trying to gear up for my first ever Christmas fair, so am currently surrounded by various size cakes!
As I cannot sell the cakes by the slice, I'm hoping to sell some taster 4inch cakes, which might then lead to full size cake sales.
    We'll see how it goes?

  2. Love your Planet Cake inspired bows - I have that book out of the library at the moment and I recognised them right away. Hope you have a great Christmas season.

  3. I think smaller cakes area good idea, I try and use the stall as a marketing tool so giving people opportunities to try affordable bitesize treats has always fowrked for me and got me repeat business.

Thanks Sarah! I love that book so much, it has some great ideas in it especially about using ganache instead of buttercream. Can't wait to try out so mof the other designs.

  4. Those cupcakes are SO cute! Pink and black are my favorite colors. =)

I have a full time job, too, so I totally know what you're going through. My free time has become baking time.

  5. Thanks Angie, I love the colour combo too! Something had to give between working full time and running a business so Star Bakery becomes full time after Christmas as I have recently been made redundant. Scary but exciting!
